Although I’ve started playing music first clarinet than saxophone 62 years ago (and am still playing) nothing can equal the joy and excitement I experienced in ’91 & ’92 on the Street with the Dick Crean String Band. Although I’ve played in back up bands for some of the biggest names in music for their road shows, nothing comes close to the thrill of stepping across that line for the 4 and 1/2 minute show on Broad St. Then came the home parade up and down the streets of Bridesburg for all the so loyal and supportive folks there. I’m retired to he South now, but I guarantee you if I still lived in Philly, this Irish kid from Fishtown would still be honkin’ that tenor sax in some string band.
